Why Do Window Fittings Stick Again After Lubrication?
You've lubricated the window fittings and enjoyed a couple of weeks of smooth operation – but after 2–3 months you're back to the same problem: the mechanism sticks and the window is hard to open. Why?
Our technician Andrius has noticed a clear pattern over many years of practice: the problem is usually not the lubricant as such, but the wrong choice of lubricant.
Why Standard Oil Lubricant Damages Fittings
Oil-based aerosols and lubricants are popular for a simple reason – they are sold in every hardware shop and everyone knows them. But inside window fittings, they cause the problem rather than solving it.
Here's what happens: the oil lubricant initially reduces friction. But after a few weeks it starts collecting dust and fine dirt particles. A thick, sticky mass forms – and the mechanism becomes even harder to move than it was before lubrication.
Andrius visited a client whose fittings had been lubricated about 6 months earlier. The picture was telling: the mechanism moved as if through rubber, and thickened lubricant with trapped dirt was visible inside. All because of the wrong lubricant.
Important: These lubricants are only suitable for external points – hinge bolt heads, key holes. Never spray them inside the fitting mechanism.
How GreenteQ Works: Not Oil, But Teflon
GreenteQ lubricant is designed specifically for window and door fittings. Its operating principle differs fundamentally from standard lubricants.
Initially it is liquid – this is important, because the liquid form allows it to penetrate fully into every part of the mechanism. After a few hours the liquid components evaporate, leaving only one thing: PTFE (Teflon).
PTFE is one of the most slippery technical materials in the world. Teflon:
Practically does not attract dust
Does not attract dirt
Retains its properties for up to 1.5 years
Compare: oil lubricants theoretically need to be reapplied every 2–3 months – and even then the situation gradually worsens. GreenteQ – once a year or less.
How to Test This at Home
A simple experiment: take two sheets of paper and spray GreenteQ on one, a standard oil lubricant on the other. The next day, rub with your finger.
The GreenteQ-treated sheet will have only a smooth, dry coating – nothing sticks to it. The oil lubricant sheet will be sticky and will collect dust and fluff. This difference shows exactly what will happen inside your fittings after a few months.
What to Do If Fittings Are Already Sticking
If your windows are sticking despite previous lubrication – there is a high probability that a sticky mixture of oil residue and dust has accumulated inside. In this case, simple lubrication will no longer help: the old lubricant must first be cleaned out, and only then can fresh lubricant be applied.
Our technicians complete the full cycle in a single visit: they clean out the old lubricant, lubricate the mechanisms with the correct lubricant, and adjust the fittings for the season. We provide a guarantee on all work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our window and door repair services
Use a lubricant with PTFE (Teflon) – for example GreenteQ. It is liquid, penetrates fully into the mechanism, evaporates within a few hours leaving only a Teflon coating, which does not attract dust and lasts up to 1.5 years.
Only for external points. Oil-based aerosols found in shops are suitable for hinge bolt heads and key holes. Do not spray them inside the fitting mechanism: the oil base attracts dust, and within 2–3 months a thick sticky mass forms, making the mechanism even harder to move.
With a PTFE lubricant like GreenteQ – once a year or less. With oil-based lubricants, theoretically every 2–3 months, but in practice they make the problem worse. We recommend professional cleaning and lubrication once per season – especially before winter.
Yes, the initial inspection and our technician's visit to assess the work are completely free. No hidden fees and no obligations. If you decide to go ahead, the technician will prepare a clear quote on the spot, explain everything to you and, if you agree, can usually do the work right away during the same visit.
Of course. We provide a warranty both for the work carried out and for the materials used, in line with the laws of the Republic of Lithuania.
The price depends on the type of window, the issue, and the materials needed. When the technician arrives, they give you an exact quote on site with no hidden charges, and you decide yourself whether you want to proceed with the repair.

In most cases repair is enough: replacing seals or mechanisms, improving insulation, adjusting the fittings, cleaning and lubricating the hardware. This is usually much cheaper than installing brand new windows.
Repair is cheaper, because you don't have to buy new windows, remove the old ones, dispose of them or redo the interior finishes afterwards. Repair saves both time and money and is significantly more cost‑effective.
We work with all major brands: Rehau, Veka, KBE, Schüco, Salamander, Aluplast and many others. Our technicians are trained to work with the specific mechanisms used by each manufacturer.
