How to Maintain Plastic Balcony Doors?
How to maintain plastic balcony doors, what you can safely check yourself and when maintenance alone is no longer enough.
You replaced the gaskets but it still feels cold by the window? Before ordering a second replacement, check four separate sealing points — from the cold-glass sensation to the frame-to-wall joint.

After replacing the gaskets it is natural to expect the cold-air sensation near the window to disappear. When you still feel coolness or air movement after the work, it is easy to conclude the new gaskets are wrong. In reality the gasket is only one of several points that determine how tight a window is and how comfortable it feels nearby.
If the window gaskets have already been replaced and the problem remains, a second replacement should not be the automatic next step. First it is worth identifying exactly where the cold is felt: near the glass, between the sash and the frame, at the frame-to-wall edge, or together with a change in how the window operates.
In short: after a gasket replacement, check four directions
This is one of the most important distinctions people often miss. A cold glass surface cools the indoor air next to it. The cooled air sinks downward, so when sitting near the window you can feel a draft-like movement even when no outdoor air is passing through the sash gaskets.
That is why cold felt against the glass with your palm does not by itself prove the window is leaking. It is far more useful to notice the location: is the air movement felt across the whole glass area, or clearly at a single point along the sash edge? In the first case you should also consider the glass surface temperature effect; in the second — look for a specific leak point.
Plastic window gaskets are not all the same. Different window systems use profiles of different shapes and dimensions, so a similar appearance does not mean the gasket fits a particular window. A wrongly chosen profile may not provide the required contact or may change how the window closes.
Without dismantling anything you can inspect simple things: whether the gasket has not slipped out of its groove, is not twisted or damaged, and whether no visible gaps remain in the corners. If the window began to close noticeably harder right after the replacement, or the handle suddenly needs more force, it is worth checking not only the hardware but also the choice and installation of the gasket.
For the gasket to seal, the sash must close correctly and the hardware locking points must press it against the frame as designed for that specific system. If the sash has shifted, started to catch, or the pressure has changed in different places, a new gasket alone will not remove that cause.
In this situation window adjustment may be needed. However, you should not blindly turn every visible adjustment point just to make the window press harder. Different manufacturers' hardware is adjusted differently, and increasing the pressure can also change how much force the handle needs.
In practice it helps to remember how the window worked before the gaskets were changed. If the sash was already catching, needed lifting or the handle had to be forced, that is a sign the problem may not be limited to the gaskets. It is not a final diagnosis, but such a history helps the technician decide what to check first.
The gasket seals the gap between the sash and the frame. It cannot seal the gap between the window frame itself and the wall. That area must be sealed from the inside so that air does not move uncontrolled through it. If the leak is right there, new sash gaskets will not eliminate it.
When air movement is clearly felt along the frame-to-wall edge, window sealing may be relevant, not another gasket replacement. Here it is especially important to identify the exact location first — the sash gasket and the frame-to-wall area are two different sealing zones.
A draft after gasket replacement becomes a completely different question if operational changes also appeared: the sash catches, the handle sticks, the window no longer closes as smoothly as before, or the locking points do not engage normally. In that case you should evaluate not only the sealing but the overall operation of the window.
If a real hardware or component failure is identified, plastic window repair may be required. If the parts are intact and adjusting the sash position or hardware is enough, parts do not necessarily need to be replaced.
After a gasket replacement, the key is not to run more tests but to describe precisely what changed. Five specific observations may be more useful to a technician than trying to adjust the window yourself:
This information does not allow a remote diagnosis, but it helps decide whether to check the gaskets first, the sash position, the hardware, or the frame-to-wall joint.
A repeat replacement is worth considering when there is a clear reason: the new gasket does not fit the specific system, was installed incorrectly, has slipped out of its groove, or is damaged. If none of these signs is present, it is more rational to first check the other sealing points than to replace the same part again.
If the gaskets have not been replaced yet and the question is a different one — when to replace window gaskets — we have a separate guide on wear signs. This article is about the next stage: what to do when the replacement is already done, but the problem remains.
If you still feel cold after a gasket replacement, do not immediately blame the new gaskets. First separate four situations: air movement caused by cold glass, a wrongly chosen or installed gasket, a shifted sash position, and a leak at the frame-to-wall joint. Only then is it clear what work is actually needed.
Our on-site visit and diagnostics are free. After the inspection we will tell you whether the problem is solved by adjustment, sealing, hardware repair, or by correcting the gasket installation itself.

How to maintain plastic balcony doors, what you can safely check yourself and when maintenance alone is no longer enough.

Window condition in older Kaunas apartment blocks isn't set by building age alone — it depends on when each window was fitted, its hardware and its service history. Here's what to check first and when it's worth calling a technician.

Do your plastic or balcony doors fail to close, catch on the frame or not latch? Learn when adjustment is enough and when repair is needed.

Sash catching or handle harder to turn in a new-build apartment? Before an adjustment or a warranty claim, it is worth documenting five simple facts — reviewed from Vilnius cases.

Adjusted the window twice and the draught is back? Adjustment has a limit — when a component is physically worn, no correction will hold for long. How a technician tells when adjustment is enough and when it is time for component replacement.

A new window should work flawlessly — so when the sash starts catching the frame or the handle turns harder, it's natural to suspect a defect. But the need for adjustment alone doesn't mean the window is poor quality. Here's how to tell when adjustment is enough and when you should first contact the installer.
